Researchers at the Institute for Work & Health compared workers in jobs that involved mostly sitting with those that required mostly standing. Standers had twice the risk of developing heart disease than sitters.
A combination of sitting, standing and moving on the job is the best approach for heart health.
12 year study of 7k+ shows higher heart risk for woman who combined sitting, standing, and walking, than sitting alone.
Abstract. While a growing body of research is examining the impacts of prolonged occupational sitting on cardiovascular and other health risk factors, relative
This very robust and scientific study showed a combination of sitting, standing, and walking was associated with higher risk of cardiovascular events in women, but a lower one in men.
Call-center workers were more successful and had improved morale.
Based on the numbers in this article, we calculate the breakeven on a sit/stand desk for a call center agent is .9 months. The ROI is $54 for every dollar invested. The net value of that over the amortization period for a 100 person call center is $5.4 million
"Stand-capable desks have been shown to successfully reduce sedentary behavior in the modern office, but whether their utilization improves cognitive productivity is not known. We compared productivity between stand-capable desk users and traditional seated desk users in a call center environment. Data were collected daily over a continuous six-month period. We found that increased stand-capable desk use is a likely contributor to increased productivity over traditional seated desk use."
The study further notes adoption went from 23% in month one to 53% in month six.
